How to Clean and Deodorize Your Refrigerator

In order to keep your refrigerator clean and free of odors and bacteria you should deodorize it periodically. There are several household items you can use to clean and deodorize your refrigerator.

Here are some items you can use to clean and deodorize your refrigerator.

* Baking Soda - To rid your refrigerator if odors and spills you can use baking soda. Simply sprinkle some baking soda on a damp sponge and then scrub the inside of the refrigerator. Scrub the sides, compartments, drawers, and shelves and then rinse with a clean sponge. When you are done leave the open box of baking soda inside of the refrigerator.

* Lemons - You can use lemons to rid your refrigerator of odors. You can dab some lemon juice on a sponge or cotton ball and leave it inside of your refrigerator for a few hours. Before doing this make sure you take out any food that is causing the odor.

* Cotton Balls - You can use cotton balls to keep your refrigerator smelling fresh. Put some vanilla extract on a cotton ball making it damp and put in on a shelf in your refrigerator. This will act as a deodorizer and give a nice smell to the inside of your refrigerator.

* Plastic Lids - Bottles and containers can drip and leak making a mess on the shelves of your refrigerator. You can make coasters out of plastic lids and put them under containers and bottles to stop any leaks and drips. When the plastic lids fill up and get dirty you can wash them in the dishwasher.

* Tomato Juice - If you have odors in your refrigerator and freezer you can use tomato juice to get rid of them. After you get rid of the food that causes the odors wipe the inside of your refrigerator and freezer with a sponge or washcloth with tomato juice. Do not dilute the tomato juice with water. Now rinse the tomato juice off with warm and soapy water and then wipe the refrigerator and freezer dry. If the odors remain repeat the process or you can use vinegar instead of tomato juice.

* Salt - To thoroughly clean and deodorize your refrigerator you can take out all the food, racks, drawers from it and with a mix of a handful of salt and a gallon of warm water and wipe the inside of the refrigerator with a sponge. This mixture is not an abrasive so it will not damage the surface of the refrigerator. This will clean the refrigerator but will also not introduce any new odors.

* Vinegar - Make a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar and wash the inside and outside of your refrigerator. To keep mildew out of your refrigerator wash inside the walls and drawers with a cloth dipped in full strength vinegar. You can also use vinegar that has not been diluted to wipe off dust and grime from the top of the refrigerator.

* Vanilla Extract - To get rid of odors in your refrigerator you can wipe down the inside of it using cotton balls or a sponge. To keep the vanilla scent, leave the cotton ball or sponge in the refrigerator.

* WD-40 - If soap and water can’t rid of stuck parts of food in your refrigerator you can use WD-40. Clear the food from your refrigerator and then spray some WD-40 on the spots with the food. Wipe away with a rag or damp sponge. You have to be sure that you wipe all the WD-40 out of your refrigerator before you put all of your food back inside of it.
