Carpet Cleaning

Carpets play a very important role in the overall look of our homes and dirty, stained carpets can give a bad impression of you and can also be a health risk to some people.  If you don’t take proper care of your carpets they will quickly appear much older than they actually are, reduce the value of your home, and drastically reduce the lifespan of your carpets.  By employing some of the simple techniques listed in this article you could not only expand the lifespan of your carpets by 10 years but they will also look newer for a much longer period of time.

Regular Maintenance
The easiest way to protect your carpet and reduce the need to clean them thoroughly is to employ regular maintenance on them.  You should try and vacuum your carpets at least once a week as this will reduce build up of dust and allergens within the carpet.   You should ensure that no one is wearing any type of footwear on your carpets as this can destroy the carpet fibers and can easily result in stains that are difficult to remove.

Carpet Shampooing
If your carpet has already becoming soiled and is looking older and more worn out than it should be then it’s time to shampoo the entire area.  Renting a carpet cleaning machine is an inexpensive way to bring back some of the luster that your carpets used to have.  Over time dirt, dust, and other unwanted materials work deep into the core of your carpet and shampooing is the only way to get that excess dirt out.  If you have pets you may want to use this opportunity to get rid of some of the odors they have left on the carpet by using a multi allergen carpet shampoo that will remove dust, mites, urine, and other unsavory smells from your carpets. After you have finished cleaning your carpets you may notice that some aged stains still are present despite your best efforts.  Depending on the type of stain it may still be possible to remove it using a stain removal machine.  These tiny machines are set over top of a stain and left for an hour while it works at getting out the stains.

Carpet Shampooing Damage Prevention
Carpet shampooing when done properly will only improve the look and feel of your carpets but there are things you need to do in order to avoid damaging your carpets. When you are using the shampoo on your carpets you need to ensure that you do not use an excessive amount of shampoo as this can leave soap reside so spend some time to make sure you have removed all of the soap.  When you are using the water feature of the carpet shampoo machine you want to use a light layer of water and avoid soaking an area of your carpet as too much water can cause damage to your carpet pad, and even result in carpet shrinkage depending on the material used to make your carpet.

When you are cleaning your carpets you should always follow the instructions listed on both the shampoo packages and on any machinery that you use.
